Position Location: 200 Travis Ln, Waukesha, WI 53189 with travel to other ThermTech locations in Waukesha and New Berlin
Position Hours: Primarily 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday however, this position must ensure that production functions are maintained 24/7, potentially requiring on-call availability.
Position Salary: $70,000 - $82,000
Salaries are based on a number of factors, including the skills and experience of the candidates. It is common to be hired at the lower to middle end of a salary range and while it is possible to be hired at the higher end, it often requires unique circumstances, such as proven expertise.

Job Description:
Summary: The Systems Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability, security, and performance of ThermTech’s IT infrastructure. This position is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of servers, virtualization platforms, networking hardware, storage, and related systems. The Systems Engineer ensures that the IT environment is secure, resilient, compliant with internal policies and regulatory frameworks (such as CMMC Level 1 / NIST 800-171 / ITAR), and optimized to provide a seamless user experience.
This role reports to the IT Manager, provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, collaborates closely with other IT team members, and may mentor junior staff. The Systems Engineer works within defined change management processes and contributes to continuous improvement of ThermTech’s security and operational maturity.
Job Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Perform daily monitoring of system, server, network, and security logs to ensure performance, availability, and security events are addressed.
- Verify backup completion and remediate failures as needed.
- Apply software, system, and firmware patches according to patch/change management schedules.
- Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Office 365, and virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V or VMware.
- Configure and maintain switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and VPNs.
- Implement least privilege access controls and MFA; support vulnerability remediation activities.
- Maintain accurate system documentation, configuration standards, and asset inventories.
- Participate in incident response efforts and provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated issues.
- Collaborate with IT team members and business stakeholders and may mentor junior IT staff.

Minimum Requirements:

- This position must satisfy ITAR (DSP-5) compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be a lawful permanent resident [8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20)] or a protected individual [8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)]. Employment of Foreign Persons(s) [22 CFR 120.63] will be contingent on receiving the DSP-5 license from the US State Department.
- All hires are contingent upon a 9-panel hair follicle drug test & background check.
- May be required to work any shift, including weekends.
Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of but are not limited to the following:
- Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods in a non-climate controlled industrial environment
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
- Capable of lifting and carrying at least 25-pound objects throughout shift
- Must be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
- Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone.
Education (Required): Associate degree, or higher, in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Science, or related field.
Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA Network+, Server+, Security+, Cisco CCENT or higher, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, ITIL Foundation.
Experience (Required): 2 or more years of experience in system and/or network administration within a business or enterprise environment.
Required Technical Skills:
- Windows Server and/or Linux administration
- Virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware, or Proxmox)
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
- Office 365 / Exchange administration
- LAN/WAN networking and wireless systems (Fortinet experience a plus)
- Commercial-grade firewalls and UTM platforms (FortiGate experience a plus)
- Backup and disaster recovery tools
